We regret to announce that PotCoin will no longer be attending this weekend’s BitcoinExpo in China. This is news that some of you may have already realised, after noticing that Rob Gonzalez’s profile was removed from the list of speakers earlier this week.
It is here that we should all remember how lucky we are in some areas of the world; while we often complain about the current legal situation surrounding cannabis in our areas, we should at least be happy that we can engage in the debate — not everybody has that luxury.
The event organisers recently got in touch with Rob — who was due to attend the conference to talk about PotCoin — and informed him that “officials” (when translated) had decided that cannabis was not a topic that was welcome in China, and that unless he wanted to change the subject of his speech he would be unable to speak and would be removed from the site.
Rob Gonzalez commented on the matter himself, with a positive outlook on future events of this nature:
“It’s a shame that we’re unable to go and spread the word of PotCoin at this event consisting of many worldwide attendees, especially after all the planning and crowdfunding. However, I am pleased to say that we are still on good terms with the event’s organisers who will be hosting many events around the world in the future, where talk of PotCoin will be more than welcomed.”
To anybody that was kind enough to donate towards this trip’s crowdfunding campaign, we have been in touch with PotFunder and all supporters will be contacted by them and given the choice to either claim a full refund or move their funds to a different campaign.
We are very sorry to share this news about something the community was excited to see happen, and apologise just as much for the late revelation of this news.
